And Now? in Practise

7th April 2014

Over the last several months we’ve been looking at what correctly be described as the philosophy and theory of branding. We’ve considered the implications, what it means, how we should think of it, how to position ourselves, how we should grow into our websites, credibility and IQ, EQ and SQ. We also talked about relationships, the use of great design, the right words and virtual relationships.

So where does all that leave us?

At the beginning…because we’ve also talked about having a vision and knowing your values, and that’s where you need to start if you feel that your brand may need a review.

An interesting thing here is that to run a really effective review it’s best to bring in an outside facilitator. Most of us are too close to our work, to our business, to be objective; we carry subconscious preconceived ideas that can too easily taint fresh thinking. A meeting facilitated by an experienced outsider will allow all voices to be heard and bring all thoughts to the table…and we mean all voices, because all your stakeholders should be involved. This isn’t just for management, perceptions will vary from top to bottom in your organisation, so it’s just good, inclusive thinking to involve everyone. In larger companies it may be necessary to split vision and value meetings into departments or divisions, depending on your structure….and then have each report their thoughts back through the person nominated by that group (who may not be the most senior).

And the discussion points? Well, we’ll look at these next time!
